Dr Tom O’Brian is a leading thinker in the conversation around autoimmunity. We now know that heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease all have autoimmune mechanisms. This means we have a fundamental shift in our understanding of disease and mortality. When the body’s immunity turns on our own tissue, we start to see symptoms after time and it may be too late. For instance, if we develop autoimmunity to our brain cells, we may first start noticing it with cognitive decline which means we’ve already lost tons of brain cells.

According to Dr O’Brian, this is where the serious problem lies but gluten adds fuel to the fire. Taking it out of our diets can really help offset the autoimmune cascades we are having to face.
Tests are getting cheaper and knowing what we are dealing with is key. Once you know, then it’s much easier to manage your health.
